Pettifer Estates are recognised
as being one of the most active forward land promoters in the Midlands,
and the success at Shipston-on-Stour on the fringe of the Cotswolds bears
testament to this.
The company originally purchased nearly 20 acres of land
which included IMI's factory and the
derelict Tilemans Works in the mid-1990's. Despite the site being a classic
'brownfield' eyesore,
there was strong opposition from the local planning authority and county
council who both insisted
the site had a valuable future for employment use despite failing to attract
a buyer for over a decade.
The council granted planning permission on phase-1, and
Pettifer Estates sold the site to Sir Alfred
McAlpine in 2000. Phase-2 was refused consent and went to appeal, with
a successful outcome
and the company sold the site in May 2002 to David Wilson Homes. These
2 derelict plots of land
have been regenerated and have seen the development of nearly 240 homes
plus a small element
of employment use and a community hall.
Pettifer Estates continue to successfully bring forward
other key sites from its extensive landbank
which will provide several thousand jobs. |
