At the end of June 2007 Pettifer Estates submitted a planning application for a proposed retail development at Forres Road, Nairn comprising a 45,000 sq ft food store, 40,000 sq ft of non-food retail units and a petrol filling station.

The site is situated to the south of the existing Balmakeith Industrial Estate and through provision of a new roundabout access on Forres Road, will consolidate development on the east side of Nairn establishing a much needed retail addition to the town.

Andrew Stanley, Director of Pettifer Estates said “We are seeking to provide complimentary retail uses to the town centre offer; providing the residents of Nairn with more choice, quality, price competition and improved shopping facilities. Up to 300 jobs will be created in this £20m investment providing much needed economic diversification for Nairn."

To coincide with the planning application, Pettifer Estates held a public exhibition where local residents had the opportunity to fill in a comment card or complete an on-line survey. The finding of the survey revealed that 82% of respondents considered that Nairn and surrounding area would benefit from new shopping facilities and 77% of respondents currently did the majority of their shopping out with Nairn.
