Pettifer Estates in partnership with Northumberland Estates, the Duke of Northumberland's business arm, has started work on a major new £7m retail scheme in Alnwick, Northumberland, on land owned by the Duke.

The 35,000 sq ft scheme, adjacent to the Willowburn Leisure Centre, to the south of Alnwick, has been pre-let to Homebase and Argos.

Homebase is taking 25,000 sq ft, with a 10,000 sq ft garden centre and Argos have pre-let a 10,000 sq ft unit. Designed by architect WCEC, the project will be completed in September 2007.
